We're still waiting for the puppies! Also wanted to note that all puppy updates from this point on can be viewed on the Litter 5 Puppy Update page!

Sunday, August 24, 2008

Well, it's almost time! We believe the puppies will make their grand arrival any day now. Yesterday morning the first thing we noticed about BB was that she seemed to "blossom" right up there overnight. Then, later in the morning she had a bit of a mucous-like discharge and later in the day she seemed to be breathing fairly heavy while resting in her kennel. My original figures put her due to whelp between 8/22/08 and 9/7/08, so we are right there in the range! Also, for some reason I've had that "feeling" about the 25th. I'm not saying yet it's a for sure thing, but it IS looking like it may be the 25th. As some of you who have kept up with all of our litters, or know us personally and don't really have a choice in keeping up with all of our litters, in the past I have always seemed to have a gut instinct in predicting the exact date! I don't know what it is or why or how, but it's always seemed to happen that way. So, I'm buckling down today and going to try to get as much rest as possible just in case we do have an "all-nighter" ahead of us tonight. Right now BB is laying on the floor here beside me as I type this update and her belly is making an awful lot of "gurgly", "gassy" type noises so I'm not so sure what that is all about. I took her out a while ago thinking her belly was messed up and maybe she needed to "clean out her system" before going into labor, but she didn't seem to need to do anything. This is kind of strange, don't remember Daisie ever having made such unusual noises like that, so it may or may not have something to do with the process we'll just have to see and play it by ear. I'll try to keep the updates posted, although that's not always easy to do when you're trying to keep an eye on the dogs and get some rest too. But, once she starts going into heavy labor I should have time to post a quick update or two! Wish us LUCK!

Time is drawing closer for BB to have the puppies! I'm getting excited and a little exhausted too, having just rearranged the house to make room for puppies once again as well as my daughter and her twin baby girls to move in here for a while! It's gonna get interesting around the Webster household! Basically BB is really starting to "show" as she gets a little "pudgy" around the mid-drift and her nipples are swelling up already. Her appetite has already started to increase as well! We have started advertising and publicizing looking to start putting names on our reserve list, if you or anyone you know may be interested in a new puppy just send an email & let us know you want to be on the list! There's no commitment to buy until after we receive a deposit and deposits will not be received until after the puppies arrive.

BB has gone into heat a little earlier than expected, but we have decided to go ahead and breed her with Crusher. At this time we are hopefully expecting a litter of brindle and fawn pups sometime around the end of August or beginning of September. Anyone interested in having their name put on the reserve list can shoot us an email and we'll keep you updated and posted as things progress.

The pups are now 4 weeks old, we have received a deposit on puppy #3 which was the only one available for sale in this litter. They are getting so big and mobile at this point, and I apologize to everyone who has been looking for pictures because I have been very slack on that with this litter. I have been taking some photos of them over the past four weeks, just have not made the time to post them on the website. As I have also not made the time to post regular updates. All the dogs are doing great though and I promise to try and work some update time from here on out, also going to get some pics of the new pups posted! We've also received several puppy requests and have been letting everyone know that we are planning another litter between Crusher and BB sometime next fall. We can't wait to see how BB does as a "mommy dog", her and Macie are doing very well with the new pups and Daisie has even been letting them play and interact with the puppies!

Happy Valentine's Day to everyone! It has been a very long and tiresome day here at the Webster household, but the pups have all finally arrived and everyone is now somewhat settled in and settled down. This will be an interesting experience for us with two extra dogs in the house this time. Daisie and her pups are doing very well. She ended up only having three puppies total, all males, but only two survived. This, like each litter experience we have, was a unique experience and although it was not a "picture perfect" whelping we feel very blessed to have two final little boys from Crusher and Daisie. We will definitely be retiring Daisie after this litter from any further breedings. At this time we are considering possibly keeping one of the pups ourselves leaving just one available for adoption. Further puppy updates and pictures will be posted under the puppy section of the website over the weekend for everyone to enjoy our special little Valentine puppies!

Well, just as I predicted, it looks as is we may have some Valentine puppies! Daisie started showing signs of labor starting earlier this evening and it looks as if we may start having puppies sometime throughout the night. I'll be posting further updates on her status as things progress and as usual first photos of the new pups will be posted just as soon as possible!

Here We Grow Again! Well, I should have known I was speaking way ahead of myself in regards to my previous comment, "it's always nice when a plan goes as it's supposed to!". Yes, much too soon. Apparently, the health issues which we were checking into with Daisie and the vet passed off as "hormonal changes", were in fact VERY much hormonal changes....hormonal changes as in our sweet Miss Daisie-Mae has been secretly preparing us yet another "litter of joy"! As a matter of fact, Randy & I just put "2" and "2" together a couple of nights ago and came up with "14". As in February 14th, imagine that! Now at this point you are probably asking yourselves, "how are they just now figuring out Daisie is going to have puppies"? And so, I shall explain how we managed to breed our precious Daisie and still not have a clue those "hormonal changes" were of the lactation nature. Apparently there was a communication breakdown somewhere along the way back in December when Daisie had an earlier than expected heat cycle. Because it was so much earlier than we expected and it was Christmas time and things were crazy as usual, I was a little "late" getting her to the vet for her "dry up" pills, aka: birth control pills. I mentioned that fact to the vet, and he said it would be ok that they would still work, but looking back on that day I'm not too sure I expressed to him just exactly how "late" I was getting her in to start on the pills. Well, a couple days after starting the pills, Crusher and Daisie got "hooked up" on us one morning while I was getting a shower and unable to pay attention and prevent this from happening. And so Randy called the vet and he assured Randy it was still ok. So, once again, we assumed he completely understood the whole "late" getting her in to start on the pills situation and assumed that the pills would keep her from getting pregnant. So, what do we do? What else? We completely forget the whole incident and happily go on with our lives. We had so much faith in the fact that those pills would keep her from getting pregnant that we never even worried about keeping Daisie and Crusher separated through the remainder of that heat cycle. We even had so much faith in those little pills "doing their thing" so to speak, that we became completely and totally oblivious to all the signs and signals and even the fog horn warning bells over the course of the next couple of months! So oblivious to all these things in fact that last month we actually took Daisie back to the vet to have her mammary glands checked out because Randy had noticed they were "filling out" and felt a little "knotty" or something and he was concerned that she may be developing mammary cancer or something of that nature. And we were so confident in the ability of those little old pills that even the words, "hormonal changes" did not wake us up and remind us that Daisie and Crusher DID get hooked up together at least one time that we knew of for sure during that last heat cycle. It was not until Friday night that Randy was talking to Daisie, yes he does that a lot, I think she is his "favorite". And he's just getting ready to come to bed and she started heading off to the boys' room to slip into one of her favorite nesting spots up under James' bed and he casually says to her, "Daisie, are you getting ready to have puppies? Is that why your belly is all swollen up all of a sudden and you've been nesting up under James' bed, and..." Now I can't really relay how the rest of that conversation went because at that point just one little thought popped back into my mind as I could hear Dr. Link's last words to us during that last visit to his office, "yes, I think it's just hormonal changes causing her mammary glands feel swollen like that". And I know the look on my face must have been like the one I would have if I had just met Mary, the Mother of Jesus, herself because the whole part about Daisie and Crusher having got hooked up that one time still was not registering in my mind and I just kept looking at Daisie standing in the hallway as Randy was talking to her thinking she WAS in fact like the "virgin" mother or something! I mean, all the other little signs and signals were flashing away in my mind, but that one little foghorn siren just seemed to be waning away off in the distance. And then suddenly Randy walks into the room and looks at me and says, "you know they DID get hooked up that one time during her last heat cycle". And all of a sudden that foghorn siren was BLARING just inches from my eardrums and it was like fireworks were going off inside my head as it all started to finally make sense. From that point we began tracing our steps back and counting up the days and ta-da! About midnight Friday night we realized that we could be delivering puppies at any minute! Yes, the actual due date from that day they got hooked up is Valentine's Day, and the 5 day "give or take" range falls between February 9th and the 19th. So, we spent our Saturday re-arranging the house to prepare for a whelping and raising puppies once again! And this we accomplished in just ONE day what we normally take our time doing over the course of about two months! It's amazing what energy you have when faced with the FEAR of being unprepared. Anyway, I am still behind on "advertising" for puppies at this time, the website is not quite up-to-date and ready for all of this, but all I can do is take it one day at a time and hope for the best. Even in the pet dog kingdom you occasionally have your "oops! surprise!" litters I suppose. So, at this time it looks like we definitely will hold off on breeding BB until her fall heat cycle as I am sure I cannot handle two litters back to back. And this will probably be Daisie and Crusher's last litter together. In lieu of the fact that Daisie is almost 5 years old now and she did have a difficult time with her last litter back in 2006, we are seriously considering having her fixed after she has this litter of puppies and letting BB take over carrying on with the Webster's Boxers heritage! As always, if you or anyone you know of is interested in a Boxer puppy please get in touch with us at info@webstersboxers.com!

Happy New Year! Yes, I know it's just a bit late for all that, but this year has already started looking like it may be as busy and hectic as last year, if not worse. I just wanted to take the time to post a quick new year update. Everyone in the Webster's Boxers family is doing well at this time, even the human members of the family. Speaking of which, our family has once again grown a little bigger with the addition of our two new granddaughters, Sandy & Jaelynn, who arrived on August 27th, 2007. The girls are growing like weeds and Grandma & Grandpa already have plans for making sure they have their very own Webster's Boxer to grow up with! As for the dogs, BB & Macie are all grown up and the very best of buddies. We managed to make it through all the girls having a heat cycle last year without any more puppies, it's always nice when a plan goes as it's supposed to! We are planning on breeding BB sometime this year, just have to decide if we want spring or winter puppies. As for Daisie, I'm researching some health issues before we breed her again to be sure it will be healthy for her and for the puppies. She had some complications with her last litter and has had some re-occurring issues which have given us a little concern with future breedings for her. As always, our main concern is for the health of our dogs and the puppies. And last, but certainly not least, is the "old dawg" in the family, Crusher. Poor Crusher just has to "hide" sometimes to get away from all the hormonal women in the house. Occasionally when the girls start getting all hyper and playing around he just looks at me with those big, brown eyes of his as if to ask, "Why, Mom? Why me?" But he doesn't have me completely fooled, I've also caught site of him getting down and playing around a bit too like he was a little pup again! Well, for now that's about all the updates. Check back again soon and keep looking for puppies in the future!
