5 Weeks old and boy are they becoming a HANDFUL! We arrived home yesterday evening from work to find one MIA from their play area. After a heavy search through the house we found him fast asleep beside his mommy's kennel. Poor little fellow!
So, needless to say, I did not have a good night's sleep last night as I spent most of the night jumping up to put Jackson back in the pen and patching up the pen to keep him contained. Finally, I thought I had it resolved, no more escapes for three whole hours! And just before I was heading out the door I hear the little "thump" on the kitchen floor immediately followed by the pitter patter of little paws across my kitchen floor into the living room and then those big ol' brown puppy eyes staring up at me. Back to the drawing board! But I finally conquered the "houdini" puppy, and I should mention that he does not get this "mystery escape" thing from anyone strange, he takes right after his mommy with that!
I was also able to get new pictures posted for each of the puppies last night. They are really getting so big and playful, I plan to put them out in the living room one day this week and get some video of them playing with each other.

The puppies will be 5 weeks old tomorrow and they are growing like little weeds! Puppy #1, the current "runt" of the litter, felt like she was just suddenly "inflated" the other day when I picked her up. They are getting very playful with each other and with the other dogs in the house. I hope to have time tomorrow to get some new pictures and possibly a video of them playing around with each other. We still have three puppies available (puppy #1, puppy #2 & puppy #3) and we also now have a new name for puppy #6, Athena! If you know of anyone who may be looking to adopt a family companion please refer them our way, we look forward to having names and new homes lined up for each puppy as soon as possible. It's always a big help when your new puppy is already somewhat accustomed to having a name rather than just "puppy 1"!

The puppies are now well on their way with being weaned, they are now primarily eating dry puppy food softened well with warm water. We have also started introducing them to the outdoors when the weather is nice and they love exploring in the new environment. We also had the pleasure of meeting two new adoptive families today and have officially received the first two deposits on puppies #4 and #6. Andrea Martin is adopting puppy #4 and has decided to name her "Addison" and she plans to call her "Addie" for short. Teddy Santiago is adopting puppy #6, and he will let us know as soon as he has picked a name for his new puppy. Congratulations to both Andrea and Teddy for becoming part of the Webster's Boxers family!

The puppies are now 3 weeks old, they had their first health check visit to the vet Monday morning and the vet said they were all looking very healthy. They got their first de-worming treatment and everyone is doing fine! Updated weights and photos will be posted later this week due to some of my own health issues. We do still have puppies available and currently taking deposits to reserve puppies!

Almost two weeks old now and their eyes have opened as of yesterday. I posted new pictures on the puppy pages late last night. All of the pups seem to be doing very well and gaining weight, although I am a bit concerned about puppies #1 and #4 which are still both under a pound. I plan to try supplementing these two with some formula over the weekend and see if I can get them to pick up a little on their weight. We will begin taking deposits next week, anyone seriously interested in reserving a puppy should get in contact with us as soon as possible if your name is not already on the reserve list. Those of you who are on the list will be contacted the first of next week to discuss the deposit and your choice of puppy.

Sad news at the Webster's Boxers household today. After working with Puppy #5 and supplementing with handfeeding for the past couple of days, he finally turned for the worst this morning. We're not sure exactly what happened, he seemed to be doing a little better last night, but this morning he just wasn't taking the bottle well at all and he finally took his last breath just a short distance from making it to the vet's office to have him looked at. He was just so very weak and small right from the beginning, I believe he may have not been completely developed yet.
At any rate, as is traditional for me, whenever we have a puppy that only makes it for a few days and I've had time to get attached, especially after handfeeding it for a while, I will give our little fellow an official name and we have buried him in the back yard. We are continuing to keep a close on eye on all the other puppies and they seem to be doing ok. And I guees that's all for today's updates.

Well, the pups had their first vet visit today and everything went well and Dr. Link said they all looked good and healthy. He also gave BB a good bill of health. I've also updated new photos and slideshows on each of the puppy's pages. We are a bit concerned about puppy #5 and #1, the two smallest in the litter at this time and have decided to continue to supplement their feedings with formula for a few more days and see if we can get them to gain some weight. We'll keep everyone updated on their progress!

Another day behind us and we're all chipping in and helping keep an eye on the new pups. BB and the pups are all doing well, although I am a bit concerned about the slight continuous drop in weight with all the pups today. I did buy some puppy formula today and gave puppy #5 a small bottle feeding with the formula since he is the smallest and I also mixed some of the formula in with BB's puppy food ration and she just LOVED it! Tomorrow morning we go to the vet for tail docking & dew claws and I'm going to see what he recommends or suggests. I may just be worrying for nothing, but better to ask and be careful than to be sorry later down the road!

Well, day 1 brings a good report on all puppies and BB! We kept a close and diligent watch on the pups throughout the night to make sure BB didn't accidentally roll over on one and we'll continue to keep watch over the next few days until they get big enough to wiggle themselves out from under her if she does roll on them. I've only actually been keeping weight records on our puppies for about three litters now, but I don't recall ever seeing anything as unusual as I've seen with this litter. The three big puppies each lost about an ounce since yesterday and the three small puppies each gained about four ounces since yesterday! It's just so weird, yesterday their weights ranged between 5.5 ounces and 15 ounces and now today they range between 9.3 ounces and 13.4 ounces. So unusual, by the time they go to their new homes we may not even be able to tell which one was actually the runt of the litter anymore!

We have PUPPIES! Finally! After an "all-nighter" camped out on the living room floor waiting and watching, BB finally started pushing the first one out at 11:15 this morning. Of course, she waited til everyone else had left the house except for me and Ethan and so I ended up performing parts of the job that I don't usually do and don't really care to have to do again! At this time we have 6 healthy puppies, 3 girls and 3 boys. BB is still doing a bit of panting so there may be more to come. The last one arrived at 1:05pm so we're going to work on some cleanup duties and see if there's any more surprises left in there! Check back for more updates and I'm going to try to have pics up on the site sometime this evening.

10:00pm - BB has been in pretty hard labor now since early this afternoon and we are expecting to start having puppies within the next several hours. We seem to have a thing going with having "Holiday" puppies lately and so I'm predicting they will be born after midnight. Keep checking back for updates! At this time I'm planning on having pictures of the new pups up sometime tomorrow morning!

No puppies yet, but I think we are drawing close. After reading & refreshing my memory I've decided to try taking her temp every hour or so and that was going pretty good for a while as her temp seemed to still be dropping. However, the last one I took it had jumped back up to where we started at yesterday morning so now I'm wondering what's going on. Seems like everything I've read online swears by the "taking temp" method, but none mention anything about the temp going back up! She does seem to be having some harder contractions and would not eat her vitamins this morning, so in spite of the temp thing I think we're moving right along. Stay tuned in for more updates as things progress. Although, do remember once the actual whelping starts happening I will probably not have a chance to update until after all the pups have been born because we will all be busy tending to pups & mom!

We believe BB is definitely going to have the puppies now within the next 24 hours. She woke me up early this morning just behaving very restless in her kennel and breathing pretty heavy. Yes, I did catch myself thinking I was having a deja vou moment from last weekend, but I later took her temp and it has definitely dropped and so we have been told that should mean whelping within 8 to 24 hours. She's been panting and heavy breathing on and off most of the day. Randy took her off hiking in the woods at the park this afternoon hoping to move things along! Right now she's just laying around and resting up, I think she knows she may be heading for a long and tiresome night ahead...maybe I'll take her example and try to get me some rest too! Check back soon for further updates!

Ok, we are STILL waiting for the puppies to make their grand appearance! I guess I'll have to admit for once my "feeling" about the 25th was off. I guess I just don't have "it" with BB like I did with Daisie. Anyway, Randy is now predicting sometime this weekend or early next week. I'll keep the updates coming!
Sunday, August 24, 2008
Well, it's almost time! We believe the puppies will make their grand
arrival any day now. Yesterday morning the first thing we noticed about BB was
that she seemed to "blossom" right up there overnight. Then, later in the
morning she had a bit of a mucous-like discharge and later in the day she seemed
to be breathing fairly heavy while resting in her kennel. My original figures
put her due to whelp between 8/22/08 and 9/7/08, so we are right there in the range! Also, for some reason I've had that "feeling" about the 25th. I'm not saying yet it's a for sure thing, but it IS looking like it may be the 25th. As some of you who have kept up with all of our litters, or know us personally and don't really have a choice in keeping up with all of our litters, in the past I have always seemed to have a gut instinct in predicting the exact date! I don't know what it is or why or how, but it's always seemed to happen that way. So, I'm buckling down today and going to try to get as much rest as possible just in case we do have an "all-nighter" ahead of us tonight. Right now BB is laying on the floor here beside me as I type this update and her belly is making an awful lot of "gurgly", "gassy" type noises so I'm not so sure what that is all about. I took her out a while ago thinking her belly was messed up and maybe she needed to "clean out her system" before going into labor, but she didn't seem to need to do anything. This is kind of strange, don't remember Daisie ever having made such unusual noises like that, so it may or may not have something to do with the process we'll just have to see and play it by ear. I'll try to keep the updates posted, although that's not always easy to do when you're trying to keep an eye on the dogs and get some rest too. But, once she starts going into heavy labor I should have time to post a quick update or two! Wish us LUCK!

Time is drawing closer for BB to have the puppies! I'm getting excited and a little exhausted too, having just rearranged the house to make room for puppies once again as well as my daughter and her twin baby girls to move in here for a while! It's gonna get interesting around the Webster household!
Basically BB is really starting to "show" as she gets a little "pudgy" around the mid-drift and her nipples are swelling up already. Her appetite has already started to increase as well! We have started advertising and publicizing looking to start putting names on our reserve list, if you or anyone you know may be interested in a new puppy just send an email & let us know you want to be on the list! There's no
commitment to buy until after we receive a deposit and deposits will not be received until after the puppies arrive.

BB has gone into heat a little earlier than expected, but we have decided to go ahead and breed her with Crusher. At this time we are hopefully expecting a litter of brindle and fawn pups sometime around the end of August or beginning of September. Anyone interested in having their name put on the reserve list can shoot us an email and we'll keep you updated and posted as things progress.
