We received another deposit today on puppy #5, we're still waiting on her new family to choose the perfect name! Just three little girls left looking for their forever families! The puppies had their first "real" bath today and absolutely LOVED it! This is the first litter that bath time was actually quite easy. They all seem to take after their daddy by sticking their nose in the running water trying to lap it up as quickly as it was coming out. We also got them each a new toy today and took their 4 weeks pictures with their new toys. The new pictures have been posted this evening and hopefully in the next day or two I can get some new slideshows up on the website. That's all the updates for tonight, enjoy the new pictures!

Our babies are 4 weeks old today and everyone is doing GREAT! 4 weeks isn't really a big "mile marker" age for the pups, but it is amazing how mature they have become in just a weeks time. Last week at this time we were just introducing the whole "solid food" concept, even if it was watered down pretty good it was still more solid than just the formula they were getting. Last week we had to physically pick each puppy up and put them at the food bowl and some we even had to push their little noses down to the food so they could get a good smell of it and understand what it was. Today...let's just say feeding time is a whole new ball game now lol As soon as I come in the room with the tray of food they are all piled up at the edge of their playpen yapping and barking a mile a minute telling me to HURRY up we are HUNGRY little puppies! Then, as I get closer to their playpen with the tray of food in my hands they all begin to rush to the middle of the play area, they already KNOW that is where I will set the food tray down at. However, they don't realize yet that by piling up in the middle they make it harder for me to even set the food tray down. So, I have to balance the food tray in one hand and use the other hand to gently scoot them here and there until I manage to clear a spot somewhat big enough to set the tray down....this is NOT an easy task! Then, once the tray is down I have to quickly move my hands or my entire hand and part of my arm will end up covered in puppy food because they are NOT neat eaters at this point either. That and the food is still watered down a bit so when they "attack" the food tray at first there is a lot of "splashback" going on as they all fight to get in there and lap up all the liquid first. Meanwhile, I'm still working on the puppy cam thing and hope to figure out soon how to get that up "live" on the website. In the meantime, hope everyone is enjoying the pictures and the slideshows. I'm going to try to get their new puppy toys this weekend and do their 4 weeks pictures with their new toys. This has become somewhat of a tradition for us, usually at either 4 or 5 weeks we get them their first toy and try to take a somewhat formal "posed" picture with the toy....again, not always an easy task but we shall see how it goes. This bunch seems to be quite the photogenic group, could possibly be because they are all females....I think we have the "diva" thing going on with this litter!

Three weeks old! Lots going on this week, we will be taking the pups to the vet this week for some de-worming if needed (it usually is, this is pretty much standard for any litter of puppies). Also I will be updating the individual pictures of the puppies in the next day or two. Hopefully they will cooperate with me on that! They are getting quite active and playful the past few days, even the littlest ones that were so wobbly on their legs back a few days ago are now getting around quite well and taking every opportunity available to "pounce" on their bigger siblings! And finally, this is the week we will begin introducing them to the weaning process. We had been working with them the past few days taking puppy formula from a little saucer and most of them are doing very well with that new skill. We will now be adding some well-soaked and "mushy" puppy food into the puppy formula and getting them used to "eating" the slightly thicker substance. It's a very MESSY process as they have to learn not to walk in the food saucer and especially not to roll and play in the food saucer! If you have a weak stomach for messes beware of the pictures and/or video postings on the website from this point on because we will inevitably have some messy babies!

We received our third deposit today, Puppy #2 will now be known as "Thor" and will be leaving for his forever home in Virginia around the 19th of September 2009! All the pups are doing well, several are taking the puppy formula from a saucer quite well and the littlest ones have started taking off on their wobbly legs today. By the end of this upcoming week we will begin working with at least the bigger ones on watered down puppy food and continue the puppy formula supplements. We're still working with the feedings letting the smaller ones on alone for the first few minutes before putting the bigger ones in to nurse. Kacie, the smallest one in the litter, is definitely a fighter at heart, she was the last little one to hold on this evening after we put the bigger ones in and that spunky little girl just held onto her ninny like her life depended on it! Go get 'em Kacie!

So far we have received two deposits this weekend, one on puppy #4 who will now be named, Roxy, and one on puppy #6 who will now be named, Kacie! Two more puppy visits scheduled for tomorrow and one for next Saturday so far. All the pups are doing quite well, although we are still working with the smallest three to be sure they are getting an equal opportunity at the food supply. Look for more updates later in the week and hopefully more pictures later today.

The puppies are two weeks old today and all are doing well! All of the pups have finally made it up and over the one pound mark, a few are rapidly approaching the 3 pound mark! They are developing their own unique personalities with each passing day and beginning to become playful with each other. A couple are beginning to master the art of "barking", lucky US! We are starting to schedule in-person visits for those interested in visiting in person to choose a puppy and make a deposit.

We noticed some pretty little eyeballs squinting back at us this morning!! Within the next day or two it will be time for some more new pictures, although it's going to get that much harder to take the pictures then too because the little boogers will actually be able to SEE where they are scooting off to lol

Well, we made it through the first week without any casualties! We are ECSTATIC about that! All the puppies are doing well and gaining weight each day, some gaining more than others, but they are all making progress and that's what counts. BB and all the other Boxers here are doing great as well, no more casualties along the lines of BB feeling the need to protect her pups. Daisie is recovering just fine from her battle wounds last week when her and BB had a little round between themselves. We're patiently waiting for little eyes to open now, which should happen any day now. As soon as that happens I will be posting new pictures of the little babies with their pretty eyes shining! Check back for more updates later.

Great News! After supplementing with hand feedings on the two smallest ones over the weekend I decided to take a second weight this evening and they both started going up. It is only tenths of an ounce but at this point I'll take whatever we can get as a sign of improvement. The pups and BB all still seem to be doing fine, even the little ones.

Everyone is still hanging in there! BB is getting more comfortable with leaving the pups to take care of her own business during the day now. We still have two pups that have not started gaining weight yet and I am still supplementing them with hand feeding, all the others have either gained weight or stayed the same and that's half the battle during the first few days. Hopefully these other two will at least balance out by tomorrow morning before they get their tails and dew claws done, we don't like putting too much stress on them before they stabalize on their weight. More updates will be posted as time allows!

BB and all her pups are doing well today! The pups were each weighed this morning and as normal and expected they have each dropped a slight bit of weight, but I was pleased that only one had actually lost more than a whole ounce. These pups appear to be very strong for their age and are already scooting around in the kennel quite well. BB seems to be doing well at keeping them contained and we're keeping a round-the-clock watch to be sure everyone is present and accounted for, no a-wall escapes, etc. BB's definitely getting her appetite back too and she will definitely need that to keep up with EIGHT puppies nursing! At this time the plan is to continue to weigh the pups each day for the first couple of weeks and track their weight closely to be sure they are all growing at a good rate, I plan to update new pictures at least weekly. In the past we've done that a little more frequently and sometimes a little less, but I'm shooting for weekly individual pictures this time. With a litter this size that will be a chore in itself! We will be taking them to the vet Monday morning for their first vet exam and they will have their tails docked and dew claws removed at that time. We did have our first "battle" this afternoon between BB and Daisie. The two had actually been getting along better for a while, but now there are puppies in the picture and BB is quite protective over them. It's a daily battle to keep all the other dogs well out of her path. More updates to follow later!

Puppys are coming VERY soon! BB's temp has been dropping steady over the past 24 hours, but then jumped back up a bit this evening. Still, we are having a lot of heavy panting this evening and restlessness. I will continue to post updates as things progress!
Friday, July 17, 2009
Well, we have now officially made it past the 4th of July Holiday AND James' birthday, and still NO PUPS! BB's temp is still bouncing around between 98 and 100, and her appetite is still quite healthy. I'm hoping for pups over the weekend so I don't have to miss too much time from work, but knowing BB she will probably have us sitting around all day and night all weekend long and finally have them bright and early Monday morning. There is still another family birthday she could hit to have the pups on, but I'm really hoping they come before the 22nd! And I guess this means that my "predictions" are not always right, I finally got it wrong on the first guess.

We are starting to pinpoint the day now! I decided to try the old "taking the temp" method with this litter and last night we started taking BB's temperature which was 100. By this morning it had dropped to 99.2 and so we feel like she may be getting really close. The theory on this method is that once the temp drops below 98 they should start having pups within 24 hours. Going to go home on my lunch break and check her temp again. At this time I've been hibernating a strong feeling that the pups may arrive on our youngest son, James', birthday which is tomorrow, so now I'm really leaning on that feeling. She missed the nearest "holiday" which was the 4th, and since our dogs seem to like to have those holiday pups I'm thinking we may have some birthday pups this time!

Things are progressing along well for BB and the puppies. She still has her appetite and a lot of playfulness and energy, but I think we are definitely drawing closer. Her milk seems to be starting to come in and the pups have dropped pretty low now. I actually had a little bit of a close call this morning when we had a really bad thunderstorm that scared BB a bit and I was not so sure it wasn't going to scare her right into labor! But everything is ok now and she's doing much better. More updates coming as we get closer to D-Day!
Friday, July 10, 2009
Looks like I've fallen short on posting pre-whelping updates again. But, the time is definitely drawing near and BB is all swelled up and almost ready to have some puppies! A guess as to when D-Day will be hasn't quite hit me yet, I am leaning towards possibly the 16th but I think maybe that's just because that is James' birthday and since there aren't any holidays coming up and our dogs seem to like to have holiday puppies, a birthday puppy may be in the picture. But I don't really have the "feeling" like I usually get, not yet anyway. Will keep you posted as things progress!

We are gearing up again for another litter of puppies! The 2009 Summer Litter will be sired by Webster's Rock Crusher and Webster's Whoa Betty will be the dam. We expect the new puppies to arrive around mid-July 2009. Anyone interested should see our Puppies page for information on having your name added to our Reserve List.
